Please come hang! Afterglow is HERE to share the joy of bike racing with everyone! If you feel comfy on a bike but you’ve never done a race, you can try out our beginner/fun lap, or our medium race of 30 minutes. And if you’re tired or it’s not for you? Never fear, just stop riding. You still have the glory of trying. Just remember: Big Marsh is a park made for off-road and exploration – so there is a lot of dirt and probably places you will want to walk. You can try our race on any bike, but having a fancy road bike is probably not going to be your friend. We will have rentals, but if you are coming with a large group, please email events@bigmarsh.org.
Do you want to race for a long time and feel VERY SERIOUS and maybe you have some sort of wacky plans on Sunday? Do our 12 PM race for $25. Are you wanting a challenge but you’re not really that into racing? Try the middle race of 30 minutes! Do you just wanna have fun and get wild on your Divvy/cargo bike/tracklocross bike/wheelbarrow? My friend, the Fun Lap is for YOU!
Also, all youth race free. Message events@bigmarsh.org if you might need bikes or other access for your young people. We do ask – if you are a young person or a family of a young person that enjoys bike racing/the privilege of bike racing, please consider a donation anyway! Let’s keep things fair, fun, and equitable.
We sure hope you feel like a generous Afterglow Superhero and consider signing up for a subscription donation of $150 – you can race any race all day AND you will be able to enjoy our short track and dirt racing ALL SUMMER! We will even throw in some swag and shout you out on social media, if you’d like. 🙂
If you’re asking about USAC or points or “seasonality”, well, bike racing is made up and points don’t really matter. This is supposed to be a fun event that brings the community together – we might have podiums, we might not, we’ll probably give you a prize, but by not using USAC, we can donate ALL the money back to Friends of Big Marsh.

I’m a runner but I want to try racing – how does that work?
AWESOME! You can sign up on the running form that you’d like to try a beginner lap! If you need a bike, PLEASE let us know, and reach out with other questions to events@bigmarsh.org
Do I have to wear a helmet/kit/shoes/whatever?
If you are participating in an Afterglow event at Big Marsh Park, or otherwise riding a Big Marsh rental/borrowed bike, you are REQUIRED to wear a helmet at all times. This is detailed in our waiver on the sign up page. Whatever you do outside our rides, races, or events, is on you.
Wear whatever you want. Costumes encouraged.
What can I expect?
Big Marsh Park is an incredible nature park that we’re trying to bring into its final cross-country and urban bike park iteration! That means that this bike race will probably include some adventuresome features, like hills, curvy berms, possibly a bridge made out of wood, hills, grass, pavement, and more. You WILL be able to walk anything you need to. Runners – there will be offroad, limestone, and pavement.
Weather-wise? It’s Memorial Day Weekend. Anything could happen. Stay tuned.
