The bike park at Big Marsh contains 6 unique trails. The bike routes include different difficulties, perfect for all off-road cyclists!
The park is maintained by Friends of Big Marsh, the Chicago Park District, and a dedicated group of volunteers. If you’re interested in helping Big Marsh continue to be a great bike park for all, learn more about volunteering!
We have nearly 3 circular miles of dirt singletrack which includes a variety of wooden rollers, ladder bridges, and other features.
Best for: Low impact riding, cardio, warm-up
In 2020, Friends of Big Marsh replaced the dirt pump track from phase 1, with a state-of-the-art, world-class set of two pump tracks! These asphalt pump tracks, built by Velosolutions USA, provide nearly 32,000 square feet of year-round fun. These tracks are open year-round (watch for ice when below freezing) and can be ridden by anything with wheels and without a motor (bring your skates).
Best for: Beginning- Advanced Riders, high impact riding, cardio
The most unique purpose-built features at Big Marsh are our three jump lines, currently named “small”, “medium”, and “large”. The small line can be rolled by beginners, but the medium line opens with a wooden takeoff that would require confidence, skill, and experience. The large line has gaps and off-set landings which will challenge more advanced BMX jumpers.
Best for: Beginner riders, low impact riding, cardio, warm-up
In the last two years, we’ve expanded our single track and built our excellent pump tracks. Additionally the Chicago Park District has worked tirelessly to add 3 miles of multi-use trail around the park and other amenities. Next, we have ambitious plans to build up the hill immediately south of the jump lines to a height of 50 feet and dig 4 mountain bike trails down the face. The return trails will add off-road mileage which can be activitated as part of CX courses and hopefully be opened for sledding during the winter. We do need continued support though, to make this possible. Please continue donating to Friends of Big Marsh to continue building the best public bike park in the region!
